All BU PCs are protected and regularly updated by McAfee anti-virus software. Anti-virus software helps protect your computer against most viruses, worms, trojans and other unwanted invaders that can infect your computer.

If you have your own computer, you are required to have an anti-virus application that is also capable of anti-spyware duties to gain access to the internet via BU’s Residential Network (ResNet).

Popular anti virus applications are listed below;

Application Anti-virus Anti-spyware
Microsoft Security Essentials X X
McAfee Home Edition, Enterprise v8.7 or newer X X
Norton 2010,2011, 360 and Internet Security X X
Avast! AntiVirus X X
AVG 9.0, 2011 or newer X X
Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, 2011, PURE or newer X X
Sophos X X
Eset - NOD32 X
Spybot - Search & Destroy   X
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware   X

It is recommended that you ensure that these applications are kept up to date and a full scan of your computer is made on a regular basis.

Important - You should only have one anti-virus application installed as having multiple programs will cause your computer to crash or run very slowly.

Due to the low incidents of viruses on Apple Mac and Linux computers, anti-virus applications are not currently required. However, you will be notified if this policy changes.
