Successful IT & Estates Project

As part of our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment at a local and regional level, work was carried out to the power supply at our Data Centre on the Talbot Campus last weekend.

The project – which saw IT Services and Estates working together – was a success both in terms of creating a more efficient IT Data Centre and supporting BU’s Carbon Management Plan, which looks to achieve a 40% carbon reduction target by the end of 2020/21.

A new energy efficient Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) was installed over the weekend; not only does this provide emergency power when the mains power fails, but the new equipment has a capacity for growth and an extended battery life as well as a decreased power consumption.

The new UPS has resulted in a 17% reduction in electricity usage of the Data Centre, saving over £9,000 a year and 34 tonnes of Carbon emissions.

IT carried out this work prior to Clearing and Adjustment to ensure business continuity at a very busy time. Thank you to everyone for their support while the project was carried out.
